Costa Coffee and Emirates Leisure Retail (ELR) have extended their existing partnership until 2040, offering a concrete example of a long-term franchise relationship in the Gulf.

A Partnership Dating Back to 1999

The two companies began working together in 1999. Their collaboration included the opening of the first Costa Coffee franchise store outside the United Kingdom.

Today, more than 160 Costa Coffee stores operate in the UAE as a result of the partnership. ELR was also recently named International Franchise Partner of the Year at Costa Coffee's International Partner Forum.

Agreement Extended Until 2040

The renewed agreement extends the partnership between Costa Coffee and ELR until 2040. Costa Coffee CEO Philippe Schailee highlighted the benefits of a relationship based on trust and continued innovation.

ELR CEO Tyrone Reid also emphasized the company's collaboration with Costa Coffee since 1999 and the continuation of the partnership.

A Gulf Example of Long-Term Franchise Development

For franchise professionals in Qatar and other Gulf markets, the Costa Coffee–ELR case illustrates the importance of long-term franchise partnerships.
